Colorado football improved to 6-2 and became bowl eligible with a 34-23 win over Cincinnati at Folsom Field in Boulder on Saturday night.

What could have been a moment of joy for coach Deion Sanders came with a different kind of request.

“Please don’t judge us,” Sanders said during his postgame press conference. “We don’t like that. We’d rather stay in the back in the dark and chill.”

The win over the Bearcats was the Buffaloes' fifth win in their last six games following a humiliating 28-10 loss at rival Nebraska in Week 2.

Less than two full years after inheriting a program that finished 1-11 and lost all but one of those games by at least 23 points, Sanders has upset Colorado for the third time since 2007. Whether this sixth victory will lead to a It remains to be seen where they will rank in one of the major national polls. The Buffs did not receive any votes in the US LBM Coaches Poll or the AP Top 25 last week. If Sanders gets his wish, it will stay that way.

The Buffs potentially have bigger goals than earning a number next to their name.

At 4-1 in conference play, Colorado is tied for second place in the Big 12 standings with Kansas State, which beat the Buffs 31-28 on Oct. 12 in Boulder. Only one game remains against a team with a winning record – a Nov. 9 matchup at 5-3 Texas Tech – making a nine- or 10-win season possible. If that happens, the Buffs could be in position to reach the Big 12 Championship Game. A win there would send them to the College Football Playoff.

Colorado's win on Saturday was powered by the dynamic duo of Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders. After dealing with a shoulder injury the past two weeks, Hunter caught nine passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns on offense while recording four pass breakups and two tackles on defense. Sanders completed 25 of his 30 passes for 323 yards and two touchdowns.

“We are on a wonderful journey,” said Deion Sanders after the win. “We know which direction we’re going in.”
