Chris Stapleton performing “Free Bird” by Lynyrd Skynyrd is hands down the best thing you’ll see all week

We need a studio version of this asap.

It's no secret that Chris Stapleton is widely considered one of the greatest country singers of all time. From his iconic cover of David Allan Coe's “Tennessee Whiskey” to his heartbreaking sentiment on opener “Parachute,” the 46-year-old singer/songwriter's soulful and bluesy vocals, mixed with his powerful, signature gravelly voice, nail it all Every country singer before and after him is to be shamed.

Don't you agree? That's okay, we're all entitled to our own opinion. But Parker McCollum is on my side on this issue and that's pretty much all the reassurance I need at this moment.

And this past weekend, Chris did what he always does: he absolutely rocked the crowd with his hour-and-a-half-long set on the first weekend of the Austin City Limits Festival in Austin, Texas.

Stapleton belted out all the hits, from “You Should Rather Leave” to “Traveller,” but there was one performance that may have caused depression. I didn't even know I had to leave my body while I watched. And that was his cover of legendary southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd's “Free Bird.”

“Free Bird” was released 51 years ago and, like many other Skynyrd songs, is still alive and very relevant today. This shows how good the song and the band were/are. And while no one will ever outdo Ronnie Van Zant and Co., Chris can take almost any song and absolutely DESTROY it.

While the video automatically starts with his performance of “Free Bird,” you can also check out the entire Austin City Limits set below. You're welcome.
