Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke to reporters after their 17-10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. He shared his thoughts on Rashee Rice's devastating injury following a first-quarter interception.

“I mean, I didn't know exactly what happened because obviously I tried to make the tackle, but I know Rashee (Rice) and I know how tough he is, so he was so down. “I knew that wasn’t good,” Mahomes said. “So we're just praying that the x-rays in my eyes and stuff like that are better than they looked, but I mean it's next guy's turn until he gets back.”

As he attempted to make the tackle, Mahomes fell into Rice's knee, accidentally rolling him up and knocking him out of action for the rest of the game and likely more this season. He was visibly upset by the scenario but remained optimistic that Rice could recover and his teammates would take his place on the field.

“When a player fills the role he plays in our offense as best as possible, that's a big task and now all we can do is get back to what's important and try to get guys and opportunities to succeed ” Mahomes said. “I thought Travis (Kelce) did a great job of stepping up and making plays. He always does, but at the end of the day we won.”

Travis Kelce returned to his familiar role as a primary target following Rice's injury and could take on additional targets while the second-year receiver is off the roster.
