Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz shocked fans on Tuesday with reports that they had broken up and ended their engagement after three years of dating.

The biggest mystery for fans was the apparent lack of any explanation for the breakup.

Although the former lovebirds haven't appeared on social media together in recent weeks, Channing's most recent Instagram post with Zoë, posted in early September, appeared to show the two in the midst of romantic bliss.

After multiple sources told People magazine that Channing, 44, and Zoë, 35, had gone their separate ways a year after getting engaged, the focus turned to one of Channing's last public displays of affection for the Big Little Lies star .

In his September 3 Instagram post, the Magic Mike actor showed off his impressive physique in a shirtless selfie.

He flashed a gentle grin at the camera while Zoë appeared to snooze peacefully as she leaned her head against his chiseled abs.

The photo appeared to be from the filming of her directorial debut, “Blink Twice,” as Channing sported the same trimmed beard that his character sports in the thriller.

Zoë also had her hair styled into what appeared to be the same thin braids she was pictured with in the behind-the-scenes photos.

Production on “Blink Twice” reportedly began in June 2022, months after the director and her star went public with their romance.

In his caption, the Deadpool & Wolverine actor expressed his love as he promoted their film with an ad

“This little cutie. She's so tired, brother. Every time I wondered if it would break…. “She just kept going and going and going,” he gushed. “Always looking for the truth.” She put all her skills into this film. I'm so proud to be involved with her, this film and everyone in it. forever. Knowing what it took to make it happen. No one will ever know.'

He concluded with a kind remark, adding, “Thank you for finding me and seeing me.” I have you forever. You and me, back to back against everything. I will never blink. Let's go.'

While Channing's selfie was their last social media post together, he made a final post that tangentially affected Zoë just before news of their split broke.

On Tuesday, Channing republished a Deadline article in which he revealed that he and his ex-fiancée would be joining the cast of the upcoming alien invasion comedy “Alpha Gang,” although he made no reference to reports of his split and did not provide any text from added to him own.

Cate Blanchett had already been announced as the star and producer of the Zellner brothers-directed film, but now Channing and Zoë complete the cast, along with Dave Bautista, Riley Keough, Steven Yeun and French star Léa Seydoux.

The comedy is about a group of invading aliens disguised as humans and disguised to look like members of a 1950s biker gang. However, their attempts to conquer the planet come into jeopardy when they begin to develop human emotions and a human conscience.

In early August, Channing gushed about his relationship with Zoë during an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers.

After the host mentioned that his fiancée directed “Blink Twice,” Channing gushed that “no one would ever know” that it was her first time behind the camera on a feature film.

He explained that her debut was so certain because “she's such a nerd for movies. Like she doesn't do anything (else).”

Channing joked that Zoë gave him a speech early in their relationship in which she said she “doesn't do any activities,” such as the celebrity favorite sport, “hiking.”

Instead, a typical day off for her involves watching “three or four movies,” which is how she honed her directorial vision.

The last in-person sighting of the former celebrity couple appears to have been earlier this month, on October 6, when they were spotted on a date night at a performance of the play “Picture Day” at Coffey Street Studio in Brooklyn's Red Hook neighborhood.

The two were there to support fellow Blink Twice actor Levon Hawke, who made his directorial debut with the show.

A source told People at the time that the couple looked “comfortable and cute together” as they spent time with Levon and his sister, Stranger Things star Maya Hawke, before heading to a bar to hang out to celebrate the cast and crew.

“Channing and Zoë held hands and were very comfortable with each other and settled into their relationship,” the source said. “They were affectionate, but not over-the-top PDA or anything like that.” They were so cool and relaxed. They were blown away by how intellectual the piece was.”

Although Zoë showed off her engagement ring during production, things have changed in recent weeks.

Last week, she met up with her Big Little Lies co-star Shailene Woodley for a night out in New York City, but her engagement ring appeared to go missing during the outing.

Before their relationship began three years ago, Zoë divorced her first husband, actor Karl Glusman, while Channing had recently finalized his divorce from Jenna Dewan.

The former couple shares an 11-year-old daughter, Everly.

Channing and Zoë first sparked romance rumors in August 2021 when he rode around New York on a bike while she followed him on foot.

The rumors peaked in September of that year when the two left the Met Gala in Manhattan together, although they did not walk the red carpet together earlier that evening.

By Halloween, the two had officially announced their romance.

They opted for playful, matching costumes inspired by Martin Scorsese's classic film Taxi Driver to cement their relationship status. Channing dressed up as Robert De Niro's character, while Zoë was a perfect embodiment of Jodie Foster's abused child prostitute.
