Can the thrill continue?

The Minnesota Vikings will likely need to score a field goal on Sunday. Of course, Kevin O'Connell would prefer his team just score touchdowns, but the reality is that scoring points works too.

Can the thrill continue?

Minnesota's head coach benefits from bringing in one of the best kickers in football, Will Reichard, who was nothing short of perfect.

Maybe there could have been some moves when the Vikings selected a kicker from Alabama in the sixth round. Frankly, though, it's a position that's likely to bear more fruit than any other if the prospect pans out. Daniel Carlson, the last kicker drafted by Minnesota, has been one of the best kickers in the league for some time. Coincidentally, a slow start didn't work for Mike Zimmer.

However, Reichard was exactly the opposite. The rookie from Minnesota was perfect, making huge kicks in training camp and playing well against the Las Vegas Raiders in the preseason. In seven games this season, Reichard has made all 14 of his shots and he is 4 of 4 from 50 yards or more. He scored every one of his 20 extra points and never left the Vikings in doubt.

Reichard will be asked to kick again on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts. The Vikings' offense mostly kept going during their last two losses, but the defense was lackluster and dropped points in droves. Reichard can't control this reality, but he can help his team put extra points on the board.

There's never a good time to miss a kick, but Reichard is hoping to avoid a haircut if he pins her this weekend. The last time Minnesota and Indianapolis played, the two teams were involved in a historic NFL game. Greg Joseph hit a 40-yard field goal in overtime to complete the comeback.

Head coach Kevin O'Connell would probably prefer to avoid a scenario where Reichard is responsible for a comeback win. However, if he has to go this route, the trust in the rookie is enormous. Just last week, the head coach considered a 70-yard kick, and we may have seen it fly through the uprights.

Ultimately, a team never wants the game to come down to a single shot, but Reichard instills confidence that he can score when called upon.
