Bournemouth – Man City 2-1: Historic win for the hosts

In the 22nd attempt, Bournemouth managed a win against Manchester City.

In their last 21 meetings in all competitions, Bournemouth have lost 19 and drawn just two – these draws occurred in 1989 and 1999.

After beating Arsenal and drawing against Aston Villa, Bournemouth were brimming with confidence ahead of the visit of the Premier League champions and set the tone from the first whistle.

Ederson saved a brace with two minutes left but was powerless when Antoine Semenyo fired an effort into the corner in the ninth minute.

Manchester City failed to respond in the first half, which ended with Bournemouth fans chanting “Ole” after each of their team's passes.

Evanilson was denied by Ederson just a minute into the second half, but Bournemouth's record signing made up for it just after the hour to give the Cherries a deserved two-goal lead.

City's first shot on goal came in the 80th minute, although Erling Haaland's volley was tame and easily saved.

The visitors never looked likely to score until two minutes later when Josko Gvardiol scored a header that ensured a nervy finish.

Bournemouth opted to sit deep and almost regretted that decision when Haaland had Mark Travers' shot blocked off the line before his follow-up shot hit the post.

The Cherries managed to secure all three points and a historic win to move up to eighth place in the table.
