Big stir in the US elections: Elon Musk's alleged ties to Vladimir Putin spark concerns about “Russia favoritism”.

According to a recent report in the Wall Street Journal, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and Donald Trump's biggest supporter, has been in contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin since the end of 2022. Musk has remained silent about the report.

The report suggests that Musk and Putin discussed a range of topics, from personal matters to global tensions. WSJ sources claim that during a conversation, Putin allegedly asked Musk not to activate his Starlink satellites over Taiwan as a favor to Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

These shocking revelations come as Musk has increased his investment in the US presidential race amid the Russia-Ukraine war. Musk, the world's richest person, has publicly supported former President Donald Trump, who, like Musk, is rumored to have ties to Putin, although Trump has denied such claims.

Musk was previously accused of selling Starlink terminals to Russia while the war between Moscow and Ukraine continued. However, Musk has strongly denied these reports, calling them “categorically false.”

If true, Musk's ongoing communications with Putin could raise national security concerns. His companies, including SpaceX, have extensive business relationships with the US military and government agencies, giving him access to sensitive information. According to the New York Times, Musk secured contracts worth $3 billion from various federal agencies last year alone.

Trump has also suggested that Musk would play a key role in his administration if he were to win a second term. Some critics have raised concerns that this relationship could affect future federal contracts with Musk's companies such as Tesla and SpaceX.

Musk has previously downplayed the extent of his contact with Putin. In October 2022, he posted on X (formerly Twitter) that he had only spoken to Putin once, about 18 months earlier, and that the conversation was about space. The statement followed claims from political scientist Ian Bremmer, who said Musk spoke to Putin about the Ukraine war in late 2022.
