Former United striker Dimitar Berbatov has predicted Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres will follow in Amorim's footsteps and join United.

He said on Sky Sports: “This guy, Viktor Gyokeres, is just scoring goals for fun, so I think there is a special connection between him and the coach.”

Gyokeres has been in scintillating form this season, scoring 20 goals and four assists in 16 games across all competitions.

The £58m-rated centre-forward has thrived under Amorim. He played 66 games, scored an impressive 63 goals and provided 23 assists.

He would have received the recognition he so richly deserves had he played in a more popular league.

Erik ten Hag signed several players who played under his management at Ajax. Amorim could also do the same.

Rasmus Hojlund has the potential to thrive, but he needs the support of another striker to ease his load.

Joshua Zirkzee was hired with the expectation of fulfilling this role, but he found it difficult to deliver the quality required.
