Bengals face a daunting playoff history after 0-3 start to the 2024 season

CINCINNATI — The Bengals are in serious trouble.

History is not kind to NFL teams that start 0-3, especially in this century.

The 2018 Texans are the only team to make the playoffs in the 2000s and beyond after starting 0-3 (finally 11-5, AFC South Champions). In total, five other teams have done it:

Of course, it's easy to see from this list that no 0-3 start has ever ended in the Super Bowl, Cincinnati's only win this season in the final year of financial flexibility during the Joe Burrow era.

Unfortunately, those goals are as far away as they can get right now. The climb must begin with a win against Carolina this Sunday. Those 1992 Chargers are the only team to make the playoffs after starting 0-4.
