He is not overused and threw 99 pitches in his last start. The risk of a 5-inning start for him is big enough to overwhelm a weak New York bullpen. And the Yankees' right-hander is starting after 4 days off; that has not been a good break for him in his career.

Kremer has had his struggles, but he will likely give Baltimore more length. And he has been solid in two of his last three starts. The Baltimore bullpen has been shaky lately (4.85 ERA in September), but some analysis does not support that weakness.
