The Baltimore Orioles clinched a spot in the playoffs on Tuesday night, the first step toward winning a World Series.

As the Orioles' postseason draws closer and ends, their focus will be on Corbin Burnes' free agency.

Burnes will be the most sought-after pitcher on the market this winter. Other than Juan Soto, there is no major free agent available.

There's no reason for Baltimore not to give him the money he's looking for. The problem, however, is that it is uncertain how much the contract could be.

Is there a chance it could reach $300 million?

Last month he opened up about his future decision, and everything he said was exactly what the Orioles would have wanted to hear.

Burnes indicated that he wanted to play with a team with young talent.

Considering Baltimore has more young stars than any other team, that's exactly what he's looking for.

“I'm going to have to do a lot of research this offseason about farm systems, about young guys coming up, about groups of core guys that are on a team,” Burnes said, according to Will Sammon of The athlete. “Where do the teams look like they’re going to be competitive? Where do teams want to spend some money to make the fan base happy?”

But here too, money will be the deciding factor in his decision.

“But you never know what’s going to happen in baseball every year. So you just want to give yourself the best chance to win, hopefully for the entire term, hopefully for most of the term, whatever it may be.”

There have been many predictions about his potential deal. Spotrac recently released its own deal, projecting a base value of $215.3 million over seven seasons.

The chances of him getting less than $250 million seem slim based on reports in the industry, but if he could be had for that much money and he didn't return to the Orioles, fans would be right to front that Office upset.

He had some rough outings after the All-Star break, but seems to be back on track in recent starts.

Burnes has allowed just three earned runs in his last five starts, including back-to-back appearances with at least seven strikeouts and 7.0 innings pitched.

As Baltimore heads into the postseason, they need him to be their ace.

If not, they shouldn't expect much success in October.
