AU announces campus closures due to severe weather

Forecasters warn that Hurricane Helene will potentially have a significant impact on the Augusta area later today and into Friday morning.

In the interest of safety for students, faculty, staff and visitors, Augusta University campuses will be closed on Thursday, September 26 at 3:00 p.m. All in-person classes, events and activities on campus are canceled.

On Friday September 27th, teaching will take place remotely and staff will be encouraged to work from home.

Campus transit may be suspended during this time if weather conditions prevent safe operations. Please monitor Passio GO! for updates on shuttle operations during inclement weather.

All AU residence halls remain open. Campus residents should contact their community front desk or RA if they have any questions or concerns. If you become aware of any system-related problems, please report them immediately.

The atrium dining room will be open as usual today. On Friday, the Atrium Dining Hall is open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Please continue to visit jagwire.augusta.edu/alert for the latest updates on our response to the storm.

Essential employees, those identified by their department or unit as essential to the maintenance and operation of the university, must report by 9 a.m. Friday unless circumstances prevent safe travel. Key employees should contact their supervisors for further information.

Faculty, staff and students at AU regional campuses and external training sites should follow local guidance for their location.

Augusta University's Office of Critical Event Preparedness and Response continues to closely monitor Hurricane Helene forecasts to ensure the safety of our staff and students.

Operations at our Augusta campus locations will continue as usual on Thursday, September 26, including classes. For information about campus locations outside of the Augusta area, please follow the instructions of your individual emergency response team.

As Hurricane Helene approaches Florida's Gulf Coast, Augusta University's Office of Critical Event Preparedness and Response is closely monitoring the forecast to ensure the safety of our staff and students.

Unlike many previous storms, Helene has the potential for widespread impacts across the entire state of Georgia. We are expecting guidance from multiple agencies this evening and will share information as it becomes available.

Consistent with AU's Storm Ready designation by the National Weather Service, equipment and processes are in place to mitigate potential impacts to university operations.
