A Las Vegas man was arrested on Saturday for illegal gun possession near Donald Trump's rally in Coachella, California, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said.

According to law enforcement, officers assigned to the former president's rally contacted a driver in an SUV about a quarter-mile from the rally site. There, officers discovered that the man was illegally in possession of a handgun. The suspect also had a shotgun and a large magazine.

That man, later identified as 49-year-old Vem Miller, was arrested by local law enforcement on suspicion of possession of illegal firearms.

“This incident did not impact the safety of former President Trump or those attending the event,” the Sheriff’s Department said.

No injuries or shots were reported in connection with the incident.

“The U.S. Secret Service is aware that the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest on Saturday,” said Secret Service spokeswoman Soraya Sutherlin. “The incident had no impact on protective measures. The Secret Service thanks the deputies and local partners who helped cover last night’s events.”

Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco later said at a news conference that additional charges would be coming from the federal government.

The arrest came after two foiled assassination attempts on the former president. In July, shots were fired during a pro-Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, killing one spectator. In September, a man was arrested after allegedly plotting to kill the presidential candidate while he was at his golf course in Florida.

Acting Director of the U.S. Secret Service Ronald Rowe on Friday outlined the findings of the agency's investigation into the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania.
