WARE COUNTY, Georgia. – The superintendent of Ware County Schools said Monday there was “no evidence that a shooting occurred” on the campus of Ware County High School.

The Ware County Sheriff's Office said the school was placed on lockdown after reports of a shot being fired.

Parents were notified of the incident and police evacuated the school premises, but said no one was injured and the school was secure.

Here is the full statement from Superintendent Bert Smith:

Good afternoon, Ware County school families. This is Superintendent Bert Smith with an important update on today's events. This afternoon, Ware County High School was placed on a full lockdown following a reported shot on campus. Police responded immediately and after a thorough search, we can confirm that our campus has been evacuated and there is NO EVIDENCE that any shooting occurred. We know rumors are circulating, but I want to reiterate that there were NO INJURIES OR DEATHS related to this incident.

We are currently in the process of graduating the senior high school students.

As your Superintendent, I am proud to report that the district's safety protocols were implemented exactly as planned and our students and staff closely followed the guidance of Dr. Kellogg and his administrative team. We are also extremely grateful for the quick response of local law enforcement and appreciate their continued support in keeping our school communities safe.

Dear families, we deeply appreciate your cooperation and patience as the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Our school safety protocols are designed to ensure the well-being of everyone involved, and today's response reflects that commitment. We also ask that you take this opportunity to talk with your child about school safety and remind them to report any rumors or information about an unsafe situation to a trusted adult.

Because our students and staff may need support in processing their thoughts and feelings, school counselors and mental health support will be available this week. If a student would like to use this resource, they should let their teacher know. As an added safety measure, there will also be an additional police presence on site for the remainder of this week.

Thank you again for your continued support of Ware County Schools. As today has shown, we are stronger together.

Bert Smith, Ware County School Superintendent

This came amid a wave of threats from students against schools following the fatal shooting at a high school in Georgia.
