The Texas A&M football team's defense played strong in the first half against Bowling Green, holding the Falcons to just three points in the first two quarters. The offense controlled most of the possession, but had to settle for three points on two of its three drives.

Marcel Reed started at quarterback ahead of Conner Weigman, the starter in Week 1.

The Aggies took a 13-3 lead into halftime and looked to finish strong for their third win of the season. But the second half was a completely different story as both teams found the end zone quickly.

Score updates for Texas A&M vs. Bowling Green

Reed and the Aggies offense were able to move the ball and control time of possession for most of the night; the only problem was getting the football into the end zone consistently. Such was the case with their drive early in the fourth quarter, which spanned 12 plays, 64 yards and just over 4 minutes. The promising drive stalled and A&M again settled for a 34-yard field goal from Bond to extend their lead to 23-17.

Throughout the first half, the Aggies were in complete control, keeping the Falcons at bay and out of the end zone. However, since the start of the second half, the situation has been completely different.

With a blocked punt starting their attack at the A&M 10-yard line, Bowling Green had excellent field position and a chance to take the lead. However, the Aggies' defense did not allow a yard on the series, capping it off with a missed 28-yard field goal, leaving the score 20-17 late in the third quarter.

What seemed like a defensive battle quickly turned into a contest in the second half. After both teams combined to score a touchdown in the first two quarters, the Aggies and Falcons mounted three consecutive drives that ended in touchdowns.

The most recent goal came from Falcons wide receiver Rahkeem Smith with a 40-yard touchdown run that reduced the Aggies' lead to three points.

The first half was a defensive effort, and now that the second half is underway, it has been anything but. After Bowling Green scored six points on a quick drive, A&M was able to strike back. The Aggies responded with an eight-play, 75-yard drive that was capped off by a 5-yard touchdown pass from Reed to Jahdae Walker, extending their lead back to 10 yards.

The Aggies' defense played well in the first half, but the Falcons opened the second half with a bang, completing a 65-yard touchdown pass to tight end Harold Fannin Jr. to cut the lead to three points while taking just 12 seconds off the clock.

Although they couldn't score six points, the Aggies offense barely held off the clock in the first half. A&M marched down the field with an 18-play, 77-yard run that took 6 minutes, 14 seconds and was capped off with a 29-yard field goal that gave the Aggies a 13-3 lead heading into the locker room.

A&M totaled 197 yards of offense, 11 first downs, and nearly 18 minutes of possession. The Aggies couldn't shake off the Falcons, but they controlled the pace of the game from the start.

After failing to get into the game on their previous two drives, the Aggies took the ball to the 11-yard line, aided by the running game. A&M managed a seven-play, 2-minute, 28-second drive that resulted in five runs, capped off by a 28-yard field goal by Randy Bond to extend their lead back to seven points.

After failing to score a point in the first quarter, the Falcons were able to sustain a charge aided by pass interference from Will Lee III and score three points. Bowling Green marched down the field and scored a seven-play charge that lasted 2 minutes, 10 seconds, cutting the lead to 7-3.

After the methodical attack to start the game, the Aggies' offense went cold and couldn't maintain a rhythm. Since starting 2 for 2 on third downs, A&M has gone 0 for 3, and their next two attacks ended in punts as the first quarter ended.

The Aggies offense started with an 11-play opening drive that was capped with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Reed to tight end Theo Melin Ohstrom. A&M went 3 of 3 on third and fourth downs, with Reed going 5 of 6 for 62 passing yards and the touchdown pass that gave the Aggies an early 7-0 lead.

Unlike last week, there was far less intrigue and mystery surrounding Marcel Reed's expected start. When the Aggies came out for pregame warmups, Reed was seen stretching and throwing the football around while Weigman, in civilian clothes, cheered on his teammates. Elko had mentioned in a call with reporters on Monday that Weigman would play “week to week,” and later in the week did not provide any details on who would start. The answer appears to be Reed for the second time in two weeks.
