▶ 31st minute: Aleksandar Pavlovic plays a bad back pass that ends up straight out of the goal. On the following corner, Robert Andrich scored from the back to give Bayer the lead – much to the delight of the 7,500 Bayer supporters who had traveled with him. The factory club has never brought more fans to Munich in the Bundesliga.

Manuel Neuer, back between the posts after back problems, has no chance of the ice-cold Werkself's first shot on goal. It is the first of Bayern's second deficits under Vincent Kompany. But it doesn't last long…

▶ 38th minute: Pavlovic plucks the ball down with his chest 25 meters in front of the opponent's goal, takes the shot with the second contact – and hits the corner. 1:1, dream goal, mistakes ironed out.

Serge Gnabry, who has been so strong recently, has the best chance of winning. He volleys a cross from Harry Kane and hits the ball against the post. The winger puts the rebound directly onto the crossbar (48th). Twice aluminum within a few seconds, Bayern are unlucky.

And overall closer to victory. Because Wall champions Leverkusen fought for the point in Munich, standing deep in their own half for long stretches. Leverkusen conceded nine goals in the first four games, the same number they conceded last season after ten match days.

Midfield strategy Granit Xhaka on “Sky” about the defensive orientation: “Conceding three goals every game is too many. We had to do better. We're happy to take the 1-1 score with us.” And goalscorer Andrich: “It definitely wasn't the best performance with the ball today. We have planned more.”

Bayern keeper Neuer: “We were clearly the better team.” We pressed, we had the chances, we deserved the win.”

In the final phase, Harry Kane has to go down; he limps off the field, visibly injured. In a duel with Amine Adli, the striker (for the first time in the Bundesliga without a shot on goal) received a kick on the foot. It is not immediately clear whether the Englishman was seriously injured.

Bayern's sports director Max Eberl on “Sky”: “If Harry leaves the pitch, then it's something.” I hope that he is made of good English material, that nothing has happened.”

It was a special game for Kompany – against Xabi Alonso, who was one of Munich's dream solutions in the summer as Thomas Tuchel's successor. But Alonso (contract until 2026) committed to Bayer next. After further rejections (including Julian Nagelsmann and Ralf Rangnick), the Munich company signed Kompany from Premier League relegated Burnley.

As players, Alonso and Kompany faced each other seven times. The record from the Bayern coach's point of view: 1:5, with a draw. This is how the first meeting as a coach ended.

The weeks of truth are now beginning for Bayern. First in the Champions League at Aston Villa (Wednesday, 9 p.m.), then in the Bundesliga against Frankfurt (October 6th) and Stuttgart (October 19th). Finally, we go to FC Barcelona for former coach Hansi Flick (October 23rd). By then it will be clear where Bayern really stand under Kompany.
