10:48: Holy Cross runs first to gain a 2-yard gain, then Pesansky misses the ball high on a throw over the middle where he appeared to have a receiver open. Jayden Bellamy was on the ground after the game but was able to walk. He goes to the casualty tent. Pesansky is able to get the first down on a scramble.

Syracuse punt

11:29: Syracuse gets a first down after a short pass from McCord to LeQuint Allen. The Orange's offense looks a little less crisp as McCord makes a missed shot to Jackson Meeks and LeQuint Allen makes it 1-1. The offensive line is still not generating consistent pressure. Syracuse will punt for the first time as Enrique Cruz has been turned into a turnstile. McCord has no chance there. Jack Stonehouse's punt lands on the Holy Cross 25.

Holy Cross Punt

3:36: Syracuse scores two runs, but a false start gives Holy Cross a third-and-3. Holy Cross cannot complete the pass. Good reporting by Greg Delaine on this piece. A third straight three-and-out by the Syracuse defense. Syracuse takes over on the 29th.

5:02: Holy Cross takes over on its 25 after a touchback

McCord threw for 79 yards on that drive. Syracuse only ran for 13. Orange is obviously happy with the touchdown, but would really like to get the ground game going today.

Holy Cross Punt

2:14 p.m: A three-and-out for Holy Cross, which started with a 4-yard run and then missed two deep passes. It looked like they had some open positions, but not enough time to complete any of them. Syracuse will open at its 8 after committing to hold the game on the return.

3:00 p.m.: Holy Cross wins the toss and elects to receive. The Crusaders open their first drive on the 25th after a touchback.

Before the game

Syracuse will welcome back defensive tackle Dion Wilson and running back Will Nixon, who missed last week's loss to Stanford. The Orange are still without wide receiver Yazeed Haynes and cornerback Marcellus Barnes.

Syracuse will look to improve its record against FCS opponents to 22-0 as college football is split into multiple divisions heading into the game against Holy Cross at the JMA Wireless Dome.

The Orange (2-1, 1-1) are looking for a good game after a surprising loss to Stanford in their last game. The Crusaders (1-3) have lost all three games by a touchdown or less, but none of them came against an FBS program.

One of the most important things to watch for is whether Syracuse is able to put up a strong running game against Holy Cross. Running back LeQuint Allen averages just under 69 yards per game.

Syracuse has averaged just 95.3 rushing yards per game so far this season, and Fran Brown has preached the need for a balanced attack to keep quarterback Kyle McCord healthy. If the Orange are unable to compete against Holy Cross, it will likely be difficult to achieve against teams that compete at the same level.
