The accident occurred in the westbound lane.

Crews reopened the eastbound lanes around 7 a.m. Thursday, but have now closed eastbound traffic in the eastbound lanes around 9 a.m. due to the second crash.

The crash in the eastbound lanes involved a frozen food truck, Barboursville police confirm.

Emergency crews are blocking traffic in the eastbound lanes at the 29th Street exit and in the westbound lanes at the Barboursville exit.

Emergency services are asking all drivers to avoid the area if possible.

According to police, traffic on Route 60 is always very congested.

WVDOH released the following statement Thursday: “DOH is working with contractors and law enforcement to reopen the highway at the scene of these crashes on Interstate 64. Once the fires are extinguished, crews will be on site to assess the damage to the roadway wall and impact attenuators. At this time there is no timeline for when the lanes will be open. Due to the accident, delays are expected for travelers traveling east and west on I-64.”
