New details released about UTSA student found dead in campus parking garage

Authorities on Wednesday discovered a University of Texas San Antonio graduate student dead, presumed to have committed suicide, in an on-campus garage.

Campus officers found the student in the Bauerle Road Garage at the Katz Alumni Center on campus. The garage is adjacent to the main building and the John Peace Library and provides convenient access to the east side and central core of campus.

“We are deeply saddened to share the news of the death of a student at the Bauerle Road Garage this morning. Information is still being gathered. We will inform the campus community of updates as they become available,” UTSA wrote via its Facebook page.

UTSA President Taylor Eighmy also said in a message:

“It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to inform you that we have lost a member of our graduate student community, likely to suicide. I know that an unexpected loss like this can be overwhelming and impact you differently; but please know that you are not alone and I know that our entire community feels a sense of confusion and loss, especially those who knew the student best. If you or someone you know is having trouble, I highly recommend taking advantage of the free help. Resources available to you 24/7.

Newsweek I have reached out to campus police and Eighmy, but they have not responded yet.

This is the second suicide at UTSA this year, with the first incident occurring on May 7th.
