Ventura County Mountain Fire Devours Thousands of Acres: See Photos


“This is a dangerous fire that is spreading rapidly and threatening lives,” said California Governor Gavin Newsom.

A wildfire in California has destroyed several homes and caused millions of dollars in damage as firefighters try to bring it under control.

CalFire said the Southern California mountain fire has charred over 14,000 acres of land in Ventura County, which is about 70 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

The Ventura County Fire Department is on scene, but the fire is not yet contained.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom received a fire management assistance grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to secure resources to fight the fire, which has forced over 10,000 people to evacuate their homes, according to a news release.

Firefighters battled the mountain fire in a Camarillo neighborhood near Las Posas Country Club on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

“This is a dangerous fire that is spreading rapidly and threatening lives,” Newsom said in a statement. “State resources have been mobilized to protect communities, and this federal support from the Biden-Harris Administration will give state and local firefighters the resources they need to save lives and property as they continue to battle this aggressive fire .”

According to USA TODAY, the fire caused $2.5 million in damage.

The cause of the fire is currently unclear.

The fire, which was discovered on Wednesday, is primarily fueled by bushes.
