Avelo is offering new domestic flights and its first international service this holiday season

Avelo Airlines looks back on a strong October and is looking forward to a busy Christmas period. Today the airline announced that its fleet will grow to 20 aircraft and its network will expand to include more than 15 new routes.

There is a lot to celebrate before the holidays

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the aviation industry has recovered faster than expected – at least in most parts of the world. Avelo Airlines, one of the youngest airlines in the United States (US), was founded in April 2021, which was arguably crazy timing to start an airline. But since its inception, the airline has done well and achieved many milestones.

Today the airline celebrated the best on-time performance of any airline in the US. Additionally, it had the lowest cancellation rate in the country so far in 2024.

“As we enter the busy holiday season, Avelo continues to stand out as America’s most reliable airline. This holiday, our customers can rely on Avelo to get them to their destination more reliably than any other airline.” – Andrew Levy, Founder and CEO, Avelo Airlines

Avelo's announcement today was full of information, and perhaps one of the best parts was hidden in the middle. The airline plans to launch more than 15 new routes in the next two months, including its first international services. In July, the airline announced its biggest expansion, saying it would fly to Cancun and Montego Bay.

Today's announcement includes the airlines' first international routes.

As previously reported, Avelo had applied for approval from the US Department of Transportation (USDOT) to launch flights from Lakeland to Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Still, none of the new routes originate from Florida. Both Montego Bay and Cancun are served from Hartford, Connecticut. The airline also offers numerous services domestically with Hartford joining the network.

From Hartford, Avelo will launch seven routes, including the two mentioned above. New Orleans is another new domestic destination for the airline. A new base opened in Lakeland last month, bringing six more routes, including the addition of Salt Lake City and Ontario to the network.

Levy added:

“The addition of these popular new routes and destinations gives our customers more choice than ever this holiday. And when you combine that with the ease and speed of the small home airports we use, there is no more convenient and seamless way to travel than Avelo.

Strong performance in October

October was the second consecutive month that Avelo achieved an on-time performance (OTP) of over 90%. No other U.S. airline has been able to reach this mark, and this month Avelo beat Delta Air Lines and United Airlines with OTPs of 89.6% and 87%, respectively.

Avelo had 1,512 flights scheduled in October, according to Cirium, an aviation analytics firm. With a fleet of Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft, the airline had 259,608 seats available last month. The busiest route in October was from Tweed New Haven Airport (HVN) to Orlando International Airport (MCO).
