Election Day was Tuesday in Arizona and voters had a chance to fill a seat in the race for the state's U.S. Senate seat.

The seat is currently held by independent Kyrsten Sinema. The term is six years and overlaps with current Senator Mark Kelly's term. Sinema did not run for re-election.

On Tuesday, Arizona voters had the chance to elect either Democrat Ruben Gallego, an Iraq War veteran and former congressman, or Republican Kari Lake, a former television news anchor and staunch Donald Trump ally.

Gallego ran on a platform of protecting abortion access, housing affordability and Arizona's water supply. Lake ran on a platform of preventing access to abortion and securing the border.

Gallego is leading the current polls, although by a narrower margin than some might have thought.

With an estimated 60% of votes counted, Gallego is less than 3 percentage points ahead of Lake.

When will we find out who won?

Votes are still being counted across the state. Although about 60% of votes have been counted, election officials say counting would continue for several days after the election. State law gives county election officials about two weeks to complete the count.
