Here are those who came out on top on Election Day and those who didn't quite live up to expectations.

winner

Trump

Trump defied all expectations, even some of the more conservative estimates of the 2024 election. Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris by significant margins in several key battleground states. The Fox News Decision Desk projects he will win the election by garnering the required 270 electoral votes before calling a number of other top swing states.

republican

Trump's predicted victory at the top of the ticket was followed by significant victories for Republicans across the board. The Fox News Decision Desk predicted that Senate Republicans would retake the Senate majority in 2025 and score victories in West Virginia, Ohio and Montana, which were previously blue. There are still several outstanding Senate elections in the swing states, giving the party hope for an even larger majority.

loser

Chuck Schumer

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., is one of the biggest losers in this particular election as voters decisively stripped his party of its majority in the upper chamber. Instead, he will lead the minority in the new Congress. Democrats suffered projected losses in West Virginia, Ohio and Montana, effectively eliminating any chance of retaining the majority. They also failed to flip any of their Republican targets like Texas or Florida. There are still several Senate elections in the swing states that could increase the Republican majority over them.

Pollsters

Political polls have failed to accurately predict the projected decisive victory awaiting Trump in the 2024 election. The RealClearPolitics poll averages underestimated the former president, placing him behind Harris in swing states that were projected to win and showing Trump leading by a narrower margin than he ultimately did in other battlegrounds. A respected Iowa pollster's results predicted the state would be led by Harris and ended up being off by double digits as Trump took Iowa.

Democrats

Overall, the Democratic Party suffered a devastating blow from voters across the country. Not only was their presidential bid categorically rejected by the American people, but the impact of that defeat dragged candidates even further down the ballot across the board, according to Fox News Decision Desk forecasts. In some swing states, incumbent senators are fighting for their political lives, which could take days to resolve. This comes as the party has already lost two Blue seats in Ohio and Montana. House Republicans are also optimistic that they could complete the GOP trifecta in Washington, DC
