“White voters didn’t show up for Kamala Harris.”

Joy Reid said during MSNBC's election coverage early Wednesday morning that “white voters didn't show up” for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.

When the swing state North Carolina was expected to go to Donald Trump, Reid said, “We have to be open about why.”

“Black voters came through for Kamala Harris,” Reid said (via Mediate). “White voters didn’t do that.”

She continued: “It is a state where women have lost their reproductive rights, where there has been a very strong push to get women to focus on that, but the person who was responsible for taking away those rights has not “To bring her back to the White House.” And to restore her. But that message clearly wasn’t enough to get enough white women to vote for Vice President Harris, a fellow woman.”

Referring to Hillary Clinton's loss to Trump in 2016, Reid said, “This will be the second opportunity that white women in this country have to change the way they interact with the patriarchy.”

“But if people aren't receptive to that, and if they vote more, you know, on the party line or more on race than on gender and protecting their gender, there's really not much you can do other than tell people, what the risks are and leave it to them to do the right thing,” she concluded.

Trump continued to win, surpassing the 270 electoral votes needed to win after the race in the swing state of Wisconsin went in his favor. As Trump began to emerge as the clear winner, several anchors on air became emotional, including CNN's Van Jones.

“I'm thinking about the non-elite people who are feeling bad tonight,” Jones said. “There are African-American women who know a little bit about being demeaned and know a little bit about how their economic dreams are destroyed and who have been trying to dream a big dream for the last few months. And tonight they trade a lot of hope for a lot of damage. They hoped that maybe this time- this time – One of them could be considered worthy.”
