Just two years after his first public office as a senator from Ohio, Vance will become the country's 50th vice president. His path to the role was different than that of a modern vice president, considering he was a vocal critic early on of Trump, whom he once compared to “cultural heroin.”
Vance rose to fame in 2016 with his memoir Hillbilly Elegythat offered a glimpse into the frustrations and struggles of the white working class that were central to Trump's initial rise. Vance, seen as a bridge between conservative Midwesterners and liberal readers, initially opposed Trump and frequently voiced his disapproval.

Now Vance's political fate is inextricably linked to Trump's influence. According to Joel Goldstein, a professor emeritus at St. Louis University School of Law and an expert on the vice presidential office, his loyalty as one of the vice presidents most indebted to a sitting president in recent memory marks a new chapter in his Role.
