Kamala Harris wins California, even though the race went against her otherwise

US Vice President Kamala Harris secured a victory in the crucial state of California, securing 54 electoral votes, according to the Associated Press. Ms. Harris received 59.5 percent of the vote in the state, while Mr. Trump received 38.1 percent.

By electing Harris, California has reaffirmed its confidence in a Democratic candidate. In 2016, Hillary Clinton won the state with 62 percent. The trend continued with Joe Biden, who won in 2020 by a significant margin of 29.2 points. Harris' victory rests on that and her strong ties to the state – where he served as senator and attorney general.

Harris' campaign focused on issues such as abortion rights, immigration reform and economic inequality. She also pledged to continue President Biden's policies on climate change, health care and social justice.

Meanwhile, Mr. Trump received 267 electoral votes while Ms. Harris received 214 electoral votes, according to the Associated Press. Of the seven swing states, the Republican won in Georgia, Pennsylvania and North Carolina while leading in the other four, paving his way to the top job in the US.

The 78-year-old Trump, expected to become the oldest president ever elected to the White House, is set to stage a comeback after multiple federal convictions and scandals. He is only the second president in U.S. history to win two non-consecutive terms as president, with one loss between the victories.

The Republican candidate won Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Alaska, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Wyoming, Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota. Including North Dakota, West Virginia, Montana, Idaho and Utah.
