Fox News Decision Desk predicts Bernie Moreno will flip Ohio's Senate seat to the GOP

The Fox News Decision Desk expects Republican businessman Bernie Moreno to win his Senate race in Ohio against Democratic incumbent Sherrod Brown.

Brown, considered one of the weakest Democrats in the Senate, is expected to lose in a race that will have significant implications for which party takes control of the Senate.

Brown, 71, a native of Mansfield, Ohio, has held political office since 1975 and is chairman of the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. Moreno, 57, is a Cleveland-area businessman who was born in Colombia and moved to the United States when he was five.

Brown, who faces an uphill battle as a Democrat in a state Trump won by eight points in 2020, sought to distance himself from the Biden-Harris record by running ads touting his efforts at the border advertises. Brown also declined to attend the Democratic National Convention, drawing criticism from Republicans.

Brown also has a close relationship with Vice President Kamala Harris, which was strengthened during the Moreno campaign.

“Sherrod Brown and Kamala Harris conspired to pass the most liberal agenda in American history,” the Moreno campaign told Fox News Digital earlier this year. “Brown is completely in step with Harris in her radical views and will help usher in the Green New Deal, Medicare for illegals and tax increases for the middle class.”

Moreno's campaign often pointed to Brown's long career in Washington, D.C., including his election results that were almost 100% consistent with the Biden administration.

Brown flooded the airwaves with commercials criticizing Moreno for his business successes and his loyalty to Trump, portraying him as a radical on abortion. The Ohio senator also portrayed himself on the campaign trail as someone who works with both parties to get things done.

“Sherrod works for Ohio, which is why he has defied presidents of both parties to block bad trade deals, worked with Republicans to ensure border patrol and law enforcement officials have the resources they need, and been supported by the Biden administration. “Chinese solar products are undercutting Ohio manufacturers,” the campaign told Fox News Digital earlier this year.

Democrats held a 51-49 majority in the Senate on election night, including independent senators who caucus with the Democratic Party.
