Polling stations are now closed in several states, including Tennessee. In the next few hours (and likely days), Americans will be anxiously awaiting the results of the 2024 presidential election.

Even though the country is politically divided, there is one thing everyone agrees on: a shared adoration for MSNBC political correspondent Steve Kornacki.

The khaki-clad host rose to stardom in the 2020 presidential election, winning the hearts of millions of viewers with his casual style and endearing personality. His charming personality and enthusiastic election reporting have earned him the nickname “Chart Throb” and “Map Daddy” on the Internet.

Now the internet's popular correspondent is back, passionately covering the elections alongside his trusty map.

As the country awaits the final results of the historic election, Americans can count on Kornacki to unravel everything. Here's what you should know about the viral correspondent.

Who is Steve Kornacki? Why all the hype about his khakis?

Kornacki is a political correspondent for NBC News and MSNBC.

The 45-year-old anchor rose to internet fame during the 2020 presidential election when he delivered election analysis while wearing a casual ensemble consisting of a white button-down shirt, tie and Gap khakis.

His charisma and understated clothing quickly earned him support and admiration from viewers, especially comedian and actress Leslie Jones, who raved about Kornacki in a video posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

“I want my reporters to look like this: disheveled and worried. He doesn’t have a jacket on, he doesn’t care about his tie,” the comedian said.

“I really like this guy, I really love him (expletive),” Jones added.

But the love of his wardrobe is, at least for Kornacki, a mystery. In a recent interview with USA TODAY, Kornacki said he “really didn't understand” the furor over his outfit choice during the last election cycle.

“I was amused by the interest,” Kornacki said. “I never really understood it. It's not like I had a lifelong attachment to these pants. They were exactly what I happened to be wearing that day.”

According to GQ, the appeal lies in the modesty behind the khakis.

“At a time when we spend most waking moments remembering to open our jaws, it makes sense that we celebrate the world's most boring pants,” GQ wrote in a 2020 article.
