The people of Oakland express satisfaction in the exercise of their right to vote and their duty

It was a quiet weekend at local election offices, with early voters stopping by to pick up and drop off ballots.

And some local races are getting a lot of attention San Francisco mayoral election to the congressional seat in Silicon Valley to the two recalls in Alameda County.

In Oakland, voters over the weekend said they felt good about doing their part.

“You don’t have to worry about the text messages and the ads anymore. “Definitely you’re nervous about what the results are going to be,” said Alameda County voter Ambre Moton.

“We drove 1,100 miles to Santa Fe, New Mexico, to see our son. To vote, we drove for three days, five and a half to six hours a day, to get back in time to vote. “It’s so important,” said voter Helen Campbell.

Oakland voters said the big races were for them the two recalls of Mayor Sheng Thao and District Attorney Pamela Price.

“I actually kept Pamela Price. And I voted against Sheng Thao,” said Oakland voter Connie Burgin.

“As someone who has been incarcerated before, I initially believed that our local prosecutor's office was doing a good job. But then just recently I read that she has allowed the release or is about to be released of someone connected to four murders,” said Edward Ontiveros, who voted to recall Price.

“I voted against recalling the mayor. I think this is kind of a waste of public money,” Oakland voter Gina Melekh said.

“It was an enormous amount of money to carry out a recall and then put the pieces back together. That’s why I voted no on the recall,” said Campbell, who said no to both recalls.

Californians can register and vote at their local election office on the same day. You just have to do it before Tuesday at 8 p.m
