LIVE Harris vs. Trump Georgia election results on a map by county

Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris want to secure Georgia's 16 electoral votes. The state has already set records: More than half of Georgia's registered voters are already casting their ballots through early voting and absentee ballots.

Republicans were thrilled with early voting turnout in heavily Republican counties, reaching nearly two-thirds of active voters in some cases. After the final day of early voting, about 42% of voters in the majority-black Democratic stronghold of Augusta-Richmond County had cast ballots, while more than 58% of voters in neighboring Republican suburban Columbia County had cast ballots.

When will we know who won the election?

According to the State Department, an estimated 70% of ballots, including early or mail-in ballots, will be ready for tallying by 7 p.m. on Election Day – when polls close. However, final results depend on county-level reporting for in-person voting.

It is likely that we will wait for the presidential election results after election night.

Each state has unique vote-counting procedures that impact how quickly results are available on election night. The same applies in particular to the seven swing states that decide the winner.

Key factors affecting longer wait times include mail-in deadlines, early voting options, and specific state ballot counting policies.

For example, states like Pennsylvania and Nevada could experience delays due to mail-in ballot processing rules.

What are the swing states?

Georgia is one of seven key swing states that experts have identified as likely to determine the winner of the 2024 presidential election. The other swing states are: Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

It takes 270 electoral votes to win the White House, and these swing states have a total of 93 votes that will ultimately determine who wins.
