Battleground states are extending voting times in key voting districts

Battleground states are extending voting times in key voting districts

Several battleground states extended polling place hours Tuesday, citing unexpected wait times, technical problems and other problems for voters in key precincts.

Here you will find an overview of the states and districts affected so far.

Pennsylvania

In Pennsylvania, where state polls are scheduled to close at 8 p.m., voters saw extensions in Luzerne County, where local election officials said residents had until 9:30 p.m. to cast their ballots.

Voters who line up before 8 p.m. can still vote in the county's regular election system, state officials said, and voters who line up after 8 p.m. can vote by provisional ballot.

Early Tuesday, the Pennsylvania Department of State announced a two-hour extension to voting hours in Cambria County, citing a “software glitch” that temporarily delayed scanning of ballots at the precinct.

Voters in Cambria County have until 10 p.m. to cast their ballots, two hours after the 8 p.m. deadline. However, ballots cast after 8:00 p.m. must be cast using provisional ballots.

North Carolina

In North Carolina, state election officials extended voting times by 30 minutes in Burke County and Wilson County precincts. Voters there have until 8 p.m. to cast their ballot – longer than the 7:30 p.m. deadline in the rest of the state.

Georgia

Georgia also announced an extension for voters in the Atlanta counties of Cobb County, Fulton County and Gwinnett County.

Two polling places in Fulton County were evacuated early Tuesday due to multiple “unbelievable” bomb threats, prompting county officials to file a request to extend voting hours until 7:30 p.m
