Raiders News: Norv Turner could join the Raiders as an offensive consultant

The Las Vegas Raiders decided on Sunday evening to give up some of their offensive personnel. Antonio Pierce decided it was time to part ways with offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, offensive line coach James Cregg and quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello.

With the move, the Raiders will now have to choose the interim offensive coordinator. The leading candidate currently is Scott Turner, the passing game coordinator for the Tea. Turner was the coordinator of the Washington Commanders from 2020 to 2022 before joining the Raiders' staff.

Turner has an NFL pedigree due to his father, Norv Turner. Norv Turner is a long-time NFL coach, both as an OC and head coach. He made a name for himself as the Cowboys' OC in the early 1990s and was successful as head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. He was the Raiders' head coach from 2004 to 2005.

Turner, 72, last worked as a special assistant in Carolina in 2019 but could join the Raiders staff. If his son becomes the offensive coordinator, he could advise the offense.

UPDATE:

NFL Media reported that the deal was finalized.

The Raiders have experienced coaches throughout the building. Turner would add another to help Pierce get through the difficult season as his first head coach. The team needs all the help it can get on offense.
