Millions of Americans are heading to the polls on Tuesday to cast their Election Day votes, and in battleground Georgia, more than half of the state's active voters have already done so.

During the early voting period in the Peach State between October 15 and November 1, more than 4 million people voted early either in person or by mail. According to Georgia's Election Data Hub, that's 55.5% of the active voting population.

Both the Trump and Harris campaigns are investing enormous resources in the state, which President Biden won by less than 1% in 2020.

Here's what we know about who has already voted in Georgia:

More women than men

Female early voters in Georgia have outnumbered male voters by double digits – which Vice President Kamala Harris' allies see as a positive sign for Democrats given their electoral lead since the overturn of Roe v. Wade's emphasis on abortion rights during the Trump administration.

Former President Trump has also made recent appeals to female voters, pledging to “protect women” at several events in recent days and warning that they are being “under attack” from illegal immigrants under the current Democratic administration.

In Georgia, 56% of early voters were women, while 43.8% were men.

Black women outperformed black men

The gap between female and male voters in Georgia widened significantly when focusing on black voters.

Women made up 62.1% of Black voters who voted early in person or by mail, while Black men lagged behind at 37.8%.

Black voters, particularly women, are still expected to favor Harris and the Democratic Party in large numbers.

But the Trump campaign has worked to gain traction among black men in key swing states like Georgia and North Carolina, with promises of economic prosperity among Republicans.

White voters made up the largest share

According to Georgia Votes, a data aggregation site that partners with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a majority of 58% of early voters in Georgia were white.

Black voters followed with 26.4% of early voting votes.

Hispanic and Asian voters combined made up about 6% of early voters.

Black or African-American Georgians make up about a third of the state's population, according to recent census data.

Of the state's active white voters, 63% have already voted, compared to 49.7% of active black voters, Georgia's election website says.

High voter turnout in rural counties

More active voters cast ballots before Election Day in counties considered more rural in Georgia than in more Democratic-leaning areas around Atlanta.

The 20 counties with the highest share of total active voter turnout were all won by Trump in 2020, even though Biden won the state overall.

The bluer counties in the Atlanta area are still significantly larger than the rural counties where voter turnout is high — but in a race that saw fewer than 12,000 votes in 2020, every ballot cast is crucial.

Most voters come from Democratic strongholds

In terms of numbers, the largest number of early and absentee voters were in Atlanta and its densely populated suburbs.

The three highest turnout counties are Towns, Oconee and Dawson – all won by Trump in 2020, but combined the number of active voters who cast ballots there is already just over 47,000.

In contrast, in Henry, Cobb and Fulton counties – the third being the city of Atlanta itself – fewer of the total active voting population voted before Election Day, but more than 861,000 ballots have been cast so far.

Over 830,000 did not vote in 2020

One of the biggest questions in the Election Day autopsy will be how more than 830,000 early voters who didn't vote at all in 2020 cast their ballots this time.

According to Georgia Votes, this group makes up about 21% of Georgia's early voters.

About half of these voters are white and about a quarter are black.

Georgia Lt. Gov. Burt Jones told Fox News Digital last week that he believes those voters are largely Trump supporters who voted in 2016 but did not do so in 2020.

However, it's worth noting that the majority of early voters in Georgia also voted in early 2020.
