My November cold continues on another cool, if slightly less wintry, day. I am currently the biggest supporter of the tissue industry. I avoid taking medication as much as possible, but I think I've gone through two boxes of Kleenex.

So I'm going to keep this introduction short so I don't sneeze on my keyboard. Let's solve today's word, shall we?

Every day I look at Wordle Bot to analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

A tricky word today. My opening guess, SPOIL, left me with over 300 possible remaining solutions, and OVARY whittled that down to just 11, even though my instinct to put the “O” in front was spot on. OUNCE might have been better with this second guess than the third, but at least I was left with one word: OCTET for the win!

Competitive Wordle Score

I get -1 for guessing four and somehow the Wordle Bot got this one out of three (I think it's cheating!) so I get -1 for that and continue my losing streak with another -2. Ouch.

How to Play Competitive Wordle

Guessing 1 is worth 3 points; guessing 2 is worth 2 points; guessing 3 is worth 1 point; guessing 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; Guessing on 6 is -2 points and missing the wordle is -3 points.
If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If there is a tie you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or simply play for a new score every day.
Fridays are 2XP, which means you double your points – positive or negative.

Today's Wordle etymology

The word octet comes from the Latin word Octwhich means “eight”. It first came into English via the French word in the 19th century octetwhich referred to a group or group of eight performers, especially in music for an ensemble of eight performers. It was later adopted in other contexts to denote any group of eight elements, most notably in computer science to describe a set of eight bits.
