The California Golden Bears kick things off 2024-2025 men's college basketball season at home against Cal State Bakersfield and wants Debut 15 student-athletesincluding 11 scholarship holders.

Last season the Golden Bears Beat the Roadrunners 83-63 at home, but the series is not as one-sided as the November 2023 result suggests. In five previous meetings, Cal State Bakersfield has won two games, including a 73-66 triumph over Cal in the first round of the 2017 National Invitation Tournament.

California head coach Mark Madsen, who begins his second season at the helm of the Golden Bears tonight, is 2-1 against Cal State Bakersfield head coach Rod Barnes. In addition to Coach Madsen's victory last season, the two coaches have met previously when the head coach was present Utah Valley in the Western Athletic Conference.
