The mood you can expect at the elections

The mood you can expect at the elections

AWhen we wake up on the morning of November 5th in America, we'll already have an intense Scorpio season astrology behind us with last week's transformative new moon and the weekend's harsh Mars-Pluto opposition. But the good news is that Election Day itself is relatively cool – at least cosmically speaking – and we can take great advantage of that. After many sleepless nights and anxious days, we've finally made it to the actual day, and astrology is equal parts joyful and strategic.

If we put the Election Day map at 9 a.m. ET in Washington, DC, we see a Sagittarius rising with the Moon in Sagittarius. Hello, much needed joy! Sagittarius, a vibrant fire sign ruled by cheerful Jupiter, is the sign of world affairs, philosophy and, some would say, politics. It is also the sign of optimism and laughter, a healing force and a stress reducer. If you are voting just as the polls open, you can feel this very positive atmosphere at the polls. Embody the Sagittarius energy by high-fiving your neighbors and showing them funny memes on the voting line, even if it's long.

There are a few wild and amazing things happening at the same time in this early morning Election Day chart. Venus – which is also in Sagittarius, like the Moon and the rising sign of the election day horoscope – is in the first house. This is opposite lucky Jupiter in the House of Partners and suggests that women feel seen and supported by the people in their lives. Venus trines – a positive aspect – to Chiron, the wounded healer. So it might feel like our voice is both our voice and our healing balm.

Just like people, countries also have birth charts. One way to understand the fate of the country is to break out the map of the United States (dated July 4, 1776) and overlay it with the 2024 electoral map. In this chart we see the current position of Black Moon Lilith – a point in the Moon's orbit that represents feminism – at exactly the same altitude as Saturn in the American chart, the planet of masculinity. Lilith hovers over Saturn in the 14th degree of Libra, the sign of justice, ruled by Venus, the planet associated with women. In other words, women are excited on election day.

Later in the morning (at 10:17 a.m. ET), the Moon moves into Capricorn, bringing the energy back to Earth—and so we focus on a more sober strategy for the rest of the day. We can certainly take the joy of early mornings with us, but we may have to contend with longer lines and other forces getting in our way. This is why it is so important for all of us to have a voting plan a few days in advance if possible. There's nothing Capricorn loves more than a plan (except winning, of course).

Here's an Election Day prediction you can read for your sun or rising sign.
