Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade 2024: Start time, route, new balloons and more

STATEN ISLAND, NY – It's almost Thanksgiving! And that means it's almost time to either bundle up outside or snuggle up inside to enjoy the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Even in its 98th year, the parade continues to delight people of all ages. From 39 giant balloons and 22 floats to 11 marching bands, 28 clown crews and 24 performers, there is something for just about everyone along the 2.5-mile route on Thursday, November 28th.

The iconic event is expected to last three and a half hours.

Whether you want to be one of those lining up five rows along the curb along the parade route or you'd rather watch it from the comfort of your own home on NBC's “Peacock,” the holiday tradition has a lot to offer this year , featuring musicians and musicians who are stars on television and social media, according to Macy's promoters.

Every year, Broadway artists perform on stage at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. This year, audiences will enjoy performances from top entertainers such as Coco Jones, Chloe Bailey, Charli D'Amelio and more.

Of course, performance groups will also take part in the event.

Various artists from Circus Vazquez, AUM Dance Creations and Spirit of America Productions will also perform.

Also look out for performances from Jimmy Fallon and the Roots; T pain and temptations.

According to Macy's, there will be six new character balloons including: Minnie Mouse, Extraordinary Noorah & The Elf on the Shelf, Gabby from “Gabby's Dollhouse”; Goku from “Dragon Ball,” Marshall from “Paw Patrol,” and Spider-Man.

The parade begins at 8:30 a.m. at 77th Street and Central Park West

Early risers traditionally meet from 6 a.m. on the west side of Central Park West, from West 75th to West 61st Street. There are great views along this route. There is no public viewing in Central Park West, between West 59th Street and West 60th Street.

The parade turns to Columbus Circle, but there is no public viewing there. From Columbus Circle, the parade heads south on Sixth Avenue, where there are great views from West 59th Street down to West 38th Street.

Spectators are urged to avoid attempting to watch the parade on Sixth Avenue between West 34th Street and West 38th Street and on West 34th Street between Sixth Avenue and Seventh Avenue, as national television networks will restrict spectators there.

The parade will then make its final lap, stopping in front of Macy's Herald Square. There is no public viewing there.

One of the most exciting things you can see actually happens before parade day. These popular, signature balloons will be prepared for flight on Wednesday, November 27th from noon to 6pm on the Upper West Side, in front of the Museum of Natural History, between West 77th and West 81st Streets.
