Early in-person voting begins in DC, Colorado

Early in-person voting begins in DC, Colorado

The first in-person voting began Monday in both Washington, D.C. and Colorado, as the country meets just a week before Election Day.

The race between former President Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris remains a coin toss, polls show. More than 46 million voters have already cast their votes during early voting.

Both the vice president and vice president face a race to the margin of error in both the national polls and the swing state polls the former presidenther fellow campaigners and top surrogates continue to fan out in the seven key battleground states that will likely decide the 2024 presidential election.

The Republican presidential candidate starts Tuesday from his home base in Palm Beach, Florida, where his campaign says Trump will address the press.

The former president will then hold two events in Pennsylvania, which, with 19 electoral votes, represents the largest prize among the key swing states.

Meanwhile, the Democratic nominee is in the nation's capital, taking a day off from swing-state travel as she delivers what the Harris campaign is touting as her closing argument in an address at the Ellipse in front of the White House.

Key down-bottom contests in today's early voting states

There are two competitive House districts in the states that began voting on Friday:

  • Colorado's 3rd District: The 3rd District covers most of western Colorado. Thanks to its largely rural, working-class population (Aspen is the exception), it has been securely Republican for over a decade. But in 2022 there were only 546 votes. Incumbent Rep. Lauren Boebert is moving to safer Republican territory this year, making this a race between her former Democratic challenger Adam Frisch and Republican attorney Jeff Hurd. It's Lean R in the rankings.
  • Colorado's 8th District: The 8th District begins in rural Weld County, where Trump won by 18 points in 2020. But the further down you go, the more suburban it becomes. Strong Democratic turnout in Adams County, which Biden won by 16 points, gave Democratic Rep. Yadira Caraveo her first win of 2022. This time, the incumbent is running against Republican state Rep. Gabe Evans. This is a toss-up race.
