Thousands of voters descend on Hampton Roads for the final day of early voting

NORFOLK, Va. — Voters showed up in Hampton Roads Saturday for one final push for early voting.

Hours before the 5 p.m. deadline, there were long lines at some polling stations. At two locations in Norfolk it was a different story.

“There are no lines right now — so go in, do our thing and get out,” said Carson Deardorff, a voter from Norfolk.

Voters there told News 3 that early voting took some of the stress out of Election Day.

“I was worried about the queues, especially because I am here with my disabled husband and we would come together. So we decided this morning. We're like, you know what, let's just go down there and get it done,” said Kimberly Kluger Norfolk Voter.

Everyone wanted their voice to be heard.

“Were there any important topics you brought out today?” asked News 3 reporter Erika Craven.

“Absolutely,” Wise said. “The finances of our government and our nation are very important, as are our fundamental freedoms, the First Amendment, the Second Amendment and who will protect those rights for us overall.”

“(I'm) voting early in what is probably the most important election in years… Women's rights are at stake, it's all about human decency, only basic rights are at stake. And it's important to speak out and support our fellow human beings by hopefully voting for something that will make them better,” said Norfolk voter Angel Snyder.

“I think voting itself is always important and everyone should have the opportunity to do so,” Deardorff added.

The voters who spoke to News 3 certainly weren't the only ones in the Hampton Roads election.
