Website Screen Daily reports that despite his popularity, Sunny was fired by his bosses.

AppleTV+ has yet to comment on the show's apparent failure.

In the series, Rashida Jones played the role of Suzie Sakamoto, an American living in futuristic Japan.

But Suzie's life is turned upside down when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash.

After the disaster, Suzie was given a robot named Sunny to help her cope with her grief.

In the first season, viewers watched as a close relationship developed between them – but Suzie began to investigate her family's disappearance.

Sunny ended on a major cliffhanger as Suzie was finally reunited with her son – just as viewers learned that Mixy had been working for the Yakuza all along.

Reacting to the series ending, one TV fan said: “Too bad. It was really original.”

A second wrote: “Not surprised at all. I wanted to like it, but it was a mess of exaggeration and bad writing.”

“I really loved this show,” said a third fan.

The future of the hit Apple TV drama with a near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes will be revealed after one series
