Vikings kicker Will Reichard will undergo an MRI scan on Monday for a quadriceps injury

Vikings rookie kicker Will Reichard will undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of his right quadriceps injury, he said after Sunday night's win over the Colts at US Bank Stadium. He struggled with muscle soreness at the start of the game and made it worse in the first half, but used a heating pad on the sidelines to continue playing, he said Andrew Krammer of the Star Tribune.

“At some point in the first half, I don't know if it was a field goal attempt or a kickoff, he felt a little tension,” head coach Kevin O'Connell said. “Definitely something to keep an eye on as we move forward.”

Entering this game, Reichard was the only kicker in the NFL who had not missed a single attempt this season; The 23-year-old sixth-round pick from Alabama went 14-for-14 on field goals and 20-for-20 on extra points. That changed on Sunday. Midway through the second quarter, Reichard missed a 53-yard attempt to the right and then shockingly hit the right post with a 31-yard chip shot with 17 seconds left in the half.

But even though Reichard was well below 100 percent, he was able to hit all three of his extra point attempts in the Vikings' 21:13 win.

The results of his imaging on Monday will determine whether or not he has a chance to play in next Sunday's game against the Jaguars. If Reichard is out at any point, the Vikings will need to add a kicker to their roster. That likely means signing a free agent, unless they want to sign one from another team's practice squad. Theoretically, they could also trade for a kicker, although that would only make sense if Reichard is dealing with a significant injury.

More information on the Vikings' rookie kicker's health will follow on Monday.
