Kamala Harris takes aim at Donald Trump during 'SNL' skit

AVice President Kamala Harris, head of the Nov. 5 presidential election, made a surprise appearance on a sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live (SNL). The Democratic presidential candidate flew to New York City after hosting a rally in North Carolina, where her opponent, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, also held a rally on the crucial battleground.

Harris had a starring role in the Nov. 2 show “2024 Pre-Election Cold Open.” The skit began with a recap of some of the most talked-about campaign moments of the past week, with Maya Rudolph continuing her portrayal of Harris and James Austin Johnson dressed in a trash vest and parodying Trump.

The sequence then revolved around Rudolph's portrayal of Harris sitting in front of a dressing table wishing she could “talk to someone who's been in (her) shoes, you know?” A black, South Asian woman running for president…preferably from the Bay Area.” The camera then panned to Harris, who was sitting on the other side of the scrolling mirror.

Harris continued: “Because you can do something your opponent can’t do. “You can open doors” — a jibe based on a viral clip of Trump trying to open the door of a garbage truck this week.

Harris and Rudolph, staying in character throughout, picked up their momentum and continued with a comedy-rhyme-style pep talk, starting with the SNL The star said: “Now Kamala, take my palm-ala,” before the two agreed that America “needs to keep Kamala and move on.”

Then the two came together at center stage, where Rudolph announced she would be voting for Harris next Tuesday, and together delivered the show's iconic closing lines to the cold open: “And live from New York, it's Saturday night.” It was then up to this week's host, the former one SNL Writer John Mulaney takes over.

Harris has never hosted or guested on the show before, but previously praised Rudolph's impression of her during an appearance The view in October, saying the SNL Star: “She’s so good.”

Trump was now the host SNL twice: once in 2004 and once as a presidential candidate in 2015, although he did not appear SNL this season or since his presidency.
