A dramatic third Test between India and New Zealand ended with the tourists securing a series victory on the Indian subcontinent for the first time. Till the time Rishabh Pant batted, India were hoping to secure a proud win against the Kiwis, but the controversial dismissal of the wicket-keeper batsman shattered India's batting unit like a pack of cards. In doing so, New Zealand became the first team in the game's history to beat India 3-0 at home in a three-match series.

India took part in a three-match Test series for the first time when England toured the country in the 1933-34 season. The game took place in the pre-independence British era. India had suffered a 0-2 defeat against the tourists in the series.

With the 3-0 series win over India, New Zealand became the fourth team to whitewash India in a 3+ Test series after England (4), Australia (3) and the West Indies (once).

It is also the first time that New Zealand has won three Tests in a row, be it home or away. The Kiwis had never won the first three away tests of a series in their history.

India performed well in the first innings, scoring a total of 263 runs after New Zealand were bowled out for 235 runs. In the second innings, India's spin twins Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin took a total of eight wickets as the Blackcaps were bowled out for 174 runs.

However, the chase proved difficult for the Indian team. The hosts lost 5 wickets for just 29 runs after the likes of Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan departed with poor results.

Rishabh Pant was the sole bearer of India's hopes, scoring 64 runs off 57 balls before departing due to a controversial dismissal. R Ashwin and Washington Sundar wanted to agree a partnership but Ajaz Patel and Glenn Phillips had other ideas.
