High water levels are occurring in the flood-prone area in Evans off Helene

EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – As Hurricane Helene strengthens in the CSRA, areas of Columbia County are experiencing massive flooding.

An example is William Few Parkway in Evans, This is a flood prone area.

On Thursday afternoon, a ditch formed a bubbling stream in front of homes on William Few Parkway.

The water level has risen significantly since the afternoon and now the shaft to a sewer is almost covered by water.

Water in homes continued to be a concern for residents in the area as the night wore on.

There is a lot of runoff at Windmill Plantation, but it flows toward William Few where flooding occurs.

However, there are no major concerns with Windmill.

We also caught a grandmother taking photos with her grandson by the pond.

“We're patrolling the area right now, looking at how much rain is falling,” said Renee Link, who lives in Windmill Plantation.

Speaking of patrols, we also saw utility workers from Columbia County patrolling the area throughout the day.

They say they will keep an eye on the rising water and reroute if necessary.
