Do you have any questions or do you need support with voting? The election office is open all weekend

With the 2024 General Election less than a week away, the San Juan County Elections Office is here to help you vote. The office will be open Saturday, November 2nd and Sunday, November 3rd from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to assist you with in-person registration, updating addresses, providing replacement ballots and more.

To register to vote in Washington state, you must:

  • A citizen of the United States
  • A resident of Washington State
  • At least 18 years old (If you are 16 or 17, you can register as a future voter and will be automatically registered to vote if you qualify)
  • Not barred from voting by court order
  • Is not currently serving a full sentence in prison under the jurisdiction of the Department of Corrections for a felony conviction in Washington
  • Not currently incarcerated for a federal or foreign felony conviction

You can register in person at the county election office until 8:00 p.m. on Election Day to vote in the general election on November 5th. The office is located in downtown Friday Harbor, across from the courthouse.

  • Monday – Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m
  • Saturday and Sunday, November 2nd and 3rd: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m
  • Election day: 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m

Where can you vote?

Voters may return their ballots to any official drop box or by mail free of charge using the prepaid envelopes included with each ballot. Ballots must be mailed and postmarked by November 5th or dropped off at an official Washington state drop box or vote center by 8:00 p.m. that day.

Important instructions:

  • Ballots are postage paid and must be postmarked by November 5th or returned to an official Washington state ballot drop box by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. San Juan County ballot drop-off locations can be found here.
  • Official ballot boxes are locked and sealed with a numbered security seal. The official ballot boxes are emptied by a team of two San Juan County Election employees.
  • You can check the status of your mail-in ballot by logging in to VoteWA.gov

Frequently asked questions about postal voting

If mailing, the USPS recommends that you send the letter a week before Election Day. If you mail the ballot on Election Day, have the post office hand-stamp it. San Juan County mail is delivered to Seattle and processed the next day.
