When it comes to Halloween, Heidi Klum is in a league of her own.

For over two decades, the supermodel has hosted her annual Halloween party in New York City, where she unveils her elaborately designed costume of the year.

After hours of anticipation, fans tuned in to Klum's Instagram Live at 10 p.m. ET on Halloween night to see her debut her 2024: ET costume from Steven Spielberg's 1982 film of the same name.

Klum's costume references the scene where Gertie (Drew Barrymore) dresses ET in women's clothing. On Instagram Live, Klum was accompanied by husband Tom Kaulitz, who dressed as ET without a disguise.

Ahead of her big reveal, Klum appeared on an Amazon livestream alongside her prosthetic designer Mike Marino to answer questions about her costume and give viewers a chance to take a look at her elaborate preparation process.

During the hour-long stream, Klum hinted that she dresses up as something that is alive, can sing, has “a lot of wrinkles” and “works for 360.”

“That’s part of the performance,” said Klum. “These are moving sculptures. We have to make sure everything works. It is a living work of art. It’s performance art.”

“All my friends come from all over the world, literally someone from Germany, from Italy, from LA, so everywhere,” Klum said during the livestream. “It’s always exciting for me to see everyone else’s costumes. That's what I love. You know, I love seeing the creativity that we all inspire in each other. That’s the beauty of it.”

Klum's repertoire of past Halloween looks speaks for itself. According to Klum, instead of opting for sexy costumes, she prefers the grotesque.

“I love making myself not so sexy,” said the former Project career host said. “I love this art and love transforming myself into something so different and unrecognizable. You can often still see the person in the sexy costumes, but I love being dressed up.”
