Six questions before Buffalo Bills vs. Seattle Seahawks

Six questions before Buffalo Bills vs. Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks want to stay atop the NFC West and improve their playoff spot through the halfway point of the 2024 season. They are preparing for a tough Week 8 game against the AFC East-leading Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

To learn more about the Seahawks' opponent this week, we spoke with Ralph Ventre, author of Buffalo Bills On SI.

Tight end Dawson Knox only has nine receiving targets this season, but don't underestimate his importance to Buffalo's offense. The veteran has played 55 percent of the snaps and is the team's best run blocker in his position group. Knox has a great relationship with quarterback Josh Allen, both on and off the field. Beware of him as a pass catcher, especially when the Bills are in the red zone.

With Matt Milano and Terrel Bernard on the roster, the Bills will use two second-string linebackers against the Seahawks. Although Dorian Williams and Baylon Spector are both capable players, they face a tough test from Kenneth Walker and Seattle's rushing attack. How well Williams and Spector can contain the ball carrier will have a big impact on the final result.

It will be Amari Cooper's second appearance since joining Buffalo, and his snap count will likely increase. The 10th-year pro, who completed just 35 percent of the offensive reps on the field in his debut, caught four of five targets for 66 yards and a touchdown against Tennessee. Cooper, who has seven 1,000-yard receiving seasons, is a legitimate threat who can provide separation on a regular basis. His presence makes the Bills passing game exponentially better.

Third-year cornerback Christian Benford has been one of the best players in the NFL at his position this season. The Villanova product limits opposing receivers to 5.0 yards per target and he is one of the reasons 2022 first-round cornerback Kaiir Elam has been thrust into a reserve role. Benford, a sixth-round pick, earned a spot on the Pro Football Focus First-Quarter All-Pro Team.

The Bills, who see themselves as championship contenders, should be prepared to travel across the country and take care of business in a hostile environment. If for some reason they come up flat, you can expect the home team to take advantage. Buffalo needs to avoid pre-snap penalties on offense and stay “on schedule” when it has the ball. Unless the Seahawks are able to consistently break down the Bills' defense in the run game, an away win seems entirely achievable.
