“Inside Out 2” makes its streaming debut on Disney+ this week

Inside Out 2 by Disney-Pixar –the highest-grossing film of 2024 so far – is available to stream on Disney+ this week.

Featuring the voices of Amy Poehler, Maya Hawke, Ayo Edebiri and several others, Inside Out 2 was released on June 14th and Box office hitgrossed over $154 million in North American theaters on its opening weekend.

Box office record noted that the sequel to the 2015 Oscar winner for Best Animated Feature grossed $652 million domestically and nearly $1.030 billion abroad, for a worldwide total of $1.682 billion.

After debuting as a digital streaming video on demand on August 20, Inside Out 2 will begin streaming on Disney+ on Wednesday, September 25th.

Disney+ is, of course, the first streaming video-on-demand service to stream all of Walt Disney's theatrical films. You must be a Disney+ subscriber to watch Inside Out 2 on the platform.

However, when Riley turns 13 and enters puberty, Riley's headquarters is renovated to accommodate a whole new range of emotions, including fear (Maya Hawke), envy (Ayo Edebiri), boredom (Adèle Exarchopoulos), and embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser).

Fear, in particular, has taken hold in Riley's brain, so Joy and her compassionate relatives develop a plan to ensure that this feeling does not control the young teenager's life.

“Inside Out 2” was a huge success with critics

Inside Out 2 received excellent reviews from Rotten tomatoes Critics who gave the animated film an overall 90% “fresh” rating based on 314 reviews. The film achieved a 95% “fresh” audience rating on RTbased on over 5,000 verified user reviews on the site.

To the individual reviews of Inside Out 2Philip De Semlyen of Time out writes about the film: “Flairous, kaleidoscopic and bravely honest about the harder side of growing up. Inside Out 2 is Pixar's most profound and moving film since, well, Everything is upside down.”

CNN Critic Brian Lowry shares De Semlyen's sentiments, writing: “A wonderfully clever sequel that ages the concept with a dreaded word: puberty. Whatever your age, there's a lot to like about this film, which offers the laughs and sweetness you need while feeling pretty profound.”

In addition, Kyle Smith from the Wall Street Journal notes, Inside Out 2 is “a decidedly witty and sensitive parable about teenage anxieties that says a lot about the state of today’s youth,” while Olly Richards of Empire Magazine writes about the film: “It is probably the best film since coconutand best sequel since Toy Story 3.”

Inside Out 2However, it has its share of critics on RT-R, including Alison Willmore from New York Magazine/Vulture. Willmore writes in her review: “The new emotions and the overall structure of the film don't seem sophisticated enough for someone who suddenly feels the nagging pressure to fit in and tears himself apart in a self-loathing attempt to do so.”

Age rating: PG, Inside Out 2 will be released on Disney+ on Wednesday.
