How to watch Michigan vs. Michigan State (10/23/24): TV channel, kickoff time, live stream

It's a different kind of rivalry between Michigan and Michigan State this year: new head coaches on both sides, with both teams unranked for the first time in decades.

Jonathan Smith gets his first dose of the Michigan-Michigan State rivalry as he leads his Spartans team into Michigan Stadium. The Spartans enter the game with their best performance of the year: a 32-20 win over Iowa with no punts and a resurgent running game.

Michigan, meanwhile, is coming off a loss at Iowa, where it posted its lowest point total in a decade with seven, and continues to search for an answer at quarterback.

That has resulted in the betting line shrinking from more than 20 points in preseason to less than four just before kickoff.

Five must-reads before kick-off:

* Call it the night game that (almost) no one wants. Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel says it is not his school's preference to play this game at night, and Michigan State AD Alan Haller would like to see his team play fewer than the six night games it has this season plays.

* Another week of quarterback questions in Ann Arbor after the Wolverines scored just seven points in a loss at Illinois. Sherrone Moore isn't saying whether he'll stick with Jack Tuttle this weekend or switch back to Davis Warren or Alex Orji.

* In East Lansing, Michigan State is doing extra work to be prepared for any quarterback scenario Michigan might consider and says it will be prepared for whoever takes the snaps Saturday night.

* The biggest injury question mark on both sides is Michigan cornerback Will Johnson, who left the Wolverines' game against Illinois with an injury and is questionable for Saturday. The returning first-team All-American is a potential first-round draft pick in 2025.

* Michigan State saw a resurgence in its running game with 212 rushing yards on Saturday against Iowa. The Spartans will now look to further that in a matchup where quick dominance has proven paramount in the past.
