Professional football player Holden Trent dies at the age of 25

Major League Soccer is mourning the loss of a rising star.

Holden Trenta goalkeeper for the Philadelphia Union, has died. He was 25 years old. The athlete died on October 26th.

“We want to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” his family said in a statement posted to the athlete’s Instagram page. “Holden passed away this afternoon surrounded by his family and friends.”

The football player leaves behind his fiancée, Brieto whom he proposed marriage last December.

Trent's cause of death has not been revealed. His family had previously shared on his Instagram Story that he had been hospitalized in the intensive care unit earlier this week, CBS Sports reported.

“Details about the services and celebration of life will be announced shortly,” the post continued. “Our family is deeply touched to see and experience the love you all have for Holden. Love, Holden’s family.”

Trent's team also recognized the athlete.

“The Philadelphia Union is devastated by the heartbreaking death of Holden Trent,” the football club said on its website. “Although he was a wonderful player and fierce competitor, he was, above all, a devoted son, brother, fiancé and teammate who made those around him better.”
